The incredible and very impressive Canterbury West signal box is

seen astride the lines to the east of the station. The overhead box was built by the Southern Railway in 1928 but I am unsure as to why it was constructed in this manner; advise anybody, please? Despite being out of use now the box is Grade II listed so its future, for the moment at least, seems secure.
