The defunct Unipart Rail looks like they installed and maintained

the motors and mechanics of the level crossing gates at Cutsyke. Look at the engineering that has gone in to this little motor such as the little prop-shaft complete with tiny U/Js. It's such simple technology that appears to work well in all conditions, even in the extreme cold that the 'Beast From the East' can throw at it!
