The derelict and sad looking Castleford Gates signal box photographed in the snow. This 1870 North Eastern Railway box was closed in September 1997 and replaced by a Railtrack monstrosity diagonally opposite over the A655 level crossing. One of the reasons for closure was because the McKenzie and Holland frame was completely worn out apart from the fact that all the semaphores were being abolished!
